Setting Sail

From the moment I stepped onto the World Traveller, I knew I was in for something special. The warm, attentive crew greeted me like an old friend, instantly making me feel at home. The ship itself was a marvel, combining modern elegance with state-of-the-art amenities. My spacious stateroom, with its breathtaking ocean view, became my cozy haven. I indulged in gourmet dining and pampered myself at the world-class spa, all while anticipating the adventures ahead.

Discovering the Falkland Islands

As we sailed towards the Falkland Islands, excitement buzzed through the ship. The archipelago, known for its diverse wildlife and dramatic landscapes, promised a myriad of unforgettable experiences.

Stanley: The Heart of the Falklands

Our visit to Stanley, the capital, was a charming introduction to the islands. Wandering through the colorful streets felt like stepping into a different world. I visited the historic Christ Church Cathedral and explored the Falkland Islands Museum, where I delved into the region's fascinating history and culture. The blend of British heritage and remote island charm was truly captivating. Fish & Chips with peas anyone?

Wildlife Encounters

One of the most thrilling parts of the trip was encountering the Falkland Islands' incredible wildlife. Standing on a pristine beach surrounded by thousands of penguins was a surreal experience. At Volunteer Point, I had the chance to get up close with the largest colony of King Penguins outside of South Georgia. Watching these majestic birds, with their striking orange plumage, was absolutely awe-inspiring. Seeing the mothers protect days old baby chicks with their brown fluffy (not yet waterproof) fur coat!

Beyond penguins, I saw sea lions, elephant seals, and countless seabirds. Guided excursions brought me face-to-face with these animals in their natural environment, offering unparalleled photo opportunities and moments I will treasure forever.

Scenic Landscapes

The landscapes of the Falkland Islands were just as captivating as its wildlife. From rolling hills and rugged coastlines to tranquil coves and windswept moors, each vista was a feast for the eyes. The higher you get up the clifftop, the more rockhopper penguins you spot, overlooking dolphins playing in the waves none the less. These penguin colonies sure know how to pick a good view point to call home for the summer!

The Atlas Experience

Atlas Ocean Voyages truly went above and beyond to make this cruise unforgettable. I was lucky enough to be invited onboard to capture this journey where expert guides and naturalists accompanied us on shore excursions, sharing valuable insights into the local flora, fauna, and history. Onboard, I participated in a range of enrichment activities, from informative lectures to hands-on workshops that deepened my understanding of the Falklands.

The culinary experience was another highlight. Each meal featured expertly prepared dishes with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. I savoured regional specialties that reflected the flavours of the Falkland Islands, making every dining experience a delight. Who would have thought you could have 5 star dining in one of the most remote places on Earth?!
